Michael Callan is a 42 year veteran of the Fire Service. He served as a Captain with the Wallingford, Connecticut Fire Department for 20 years. Mr. Callan has extensive background in hazardous materials response, training emergency responders and industry personnel through the United States. He has a trusted and established track record for developing practical emergency response plans and training programs for industries and public safety professionals. Mr. Callan has keynoted and conducted over 1000 national training conferences.
Michael Callan has broad experience in developing and delivering multi-media training programs for industry and public safety. He created and designed Responding to Utility Emergencies online training program for Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement responders. Mr. Callan has authored key national hazardous materials and firefighting training textbooks including: Street Smart HazMat Response, Responding to Electrical Emergencies, and Responding to Natural Gas.
Mr. Callan has conducted hundreds of Train-the-Trainers throughout the United States on multiple subjects. He is also the developer of the widely adopted Propane Emergencies Training Facilitator’s Guide and PowerPoint programs used extensively by the US Fire Service. The training program has been adopted by more than 30 state training fire schools for propane emergencies. He has conducted energy, pipeline, safety, chemical and emergency response training around the country for Industrial and Municipal Haz-Mat Teams.

Michael Callan has been awarded the John M. Eversole Lifetime Achievement Award which is given annually by the International Association of Fire Chiefs to recognize a living individual who has had an exceptionally distinguished career in the field of hazardous-materials emergency response.
He also received the Norman Y. Mineta Award, given annually by the National Association of State Fire Marshals to honor an individual or team for making a significant contribution to the safety of people, products and materials in transit.
Michael also received the Dieter Heinz Instructor of the Year Award. This prestigious award is given annually at the Hot Zone in Houston, Texas in honor of the landmark Hazardous Materials instructor Dieter Heinz who influenced a generation of responders and instructors throughout the world.
